‘Love & Light’ Is So Fun!

‘Love & Light’ Is So Fun!

There’s only a handful of mainstream artists that I actively tune in for new album releases, and Maddie & Tae are one of those. I’ve been following their musical journey for years now, since their debut when I was in high school. And, now that I’ve started to review shows and books, I’m going to expand to music, too. And I’m starting with Love & Light because it quickly became my favorite of their albums.

So, I’ll be going down the album in order and sharing my thoughts. And if you want to listen along, I’m going to link each song on YouTube.

“Fall in Love & Find Out”

Maddie and Tae have come so far since their debut, and I love it. Just like the audience they started with, they’ve matured – and with it, their music. Some comments called it a “sexy” song, but it’s just a mature song that says, “If you want me, fall for me first.”

“Any Kind of Lovin’”

This song reminds me of Shania Twain’s music from the 90s in the best way. It’s such a fun song that essentially says, “love me the way I deserve or I’m gone.” And who wouldn’t love that song? It’s going to be an anthem for when I find myself settling – and it should be yours, too.

“One Hit Wonders”

From the jump, I fell in love with the writing. The lyricism and the instrumentals paired so perfectly together to bring a soft song of love. If I were in love, this might have been higher up in my personal rankings, but I do still love it. I wish it was more popular.

“Heart They Didn’t Break”

This might be a favorite of mine for a long time. Though I don’t have many girl friends, I do know the couple I have fit this song so well. Just like I’d do for them if they asked, I know they’d come running to help me out. And bonus, it feels like a continuation of one of my favorite Maddie & Tae songs, “Die from a Broken Heart”.

“Only Jesus”

When I went into this song, I thought it was going a completely different way. But I was happily proven wrong. The chorus is so fun, and it’s such a southern way of saying, “I’m not going back for sloppy seconds.” How do I send this to an ex who won’t leave me alone?

“Free Like”

This feels like 90s women’s country music – and that’s probably why I love it. The song paired with the music video just made it better. It’s one you can put on and just vibe while doing anything else – or put it on and distract yourself from cleaning like me.

“Down That Road”

Have you ever had a relationship that went on way too long because you were too nice? This song is for you. While it wasn’t an immediate favorite like a few songs, it’s one I find myself humming at work or singing along to in the car. And again with the lyricism being on point. They just don’t have any misses on this album.

“Kissing Cowboys”

If you want a fun song, this is one. If I ever create a “going out with the girls” playlist again, this is going on it right away. It’s so fun and more about having fun than falling in love. This song is going to be a go-to for karaoke, too.

“Somebody Will”

There’s something about a slow song about being loved right by someone else that hits different for me. This is going to be a favorite for a long time because it’s so relatable. The first time I heard it, I was taken back to a therapy session after my last breakup about finding someone who is ready to love me. And when a song takes me back to that, I know it’s good.

“Girl in Alabama”

Like most of the songs on this album, I didn’t know what I was going to hear with this song. But my gosh, I loved it. The lyricism is so fun. I love how it’s like, “I ain’t gonna fall for it again, have fun with your other girl.”

“Ain’t Enough”

This was the only song that I had to look up the lyrics and dive deep to understand exactly what it was about. But once I did, the song really hit me hard. Like “Somebody Will”, it took me back to that therapy session. And it’s a song that’s sadly really relatable. But it’s also really good.

“What A Woman Can Do”

The moment this song was released, I knew it was going to be a lifetime favorite. I didn’t even have to re-listen to it when this album came out, but I did. Several times. And can we talk about the music video? The first time I watched it, I was smiling the entire time.

“Drunk Girls in Bathrooms”

Just like “Kissing Cowboys”, this song will be an immediate add to my “going out with the girls” playlist one day. It’s such a fun song that was somehow made even better with the music video. I haven’t experienced a club bathroom experience, but I hope to have one like this…a girl can dream.

“Chasing Babies & Raising Dreams”

While this song isn’t relatable to me because I don’t have kids, it’s such a fun song about parenthood. I love how with their more mature sound, their motherhood experiences also came with it. Not to mention, the chorus is so fun.

“Sad Girl Summer”

If you’ve heard “Bathroom Floor” from a few years back, you’re probably going to understand when I say this song is like its sister. And just like several songs on this album, I love it enough to want to add it to my “going out with the girls” playlist…but I’ll settle for my “Summer 2025” playlist for now.

“Love & Light”

For every album, Maddie and Tae have had amazing album closers. And this one took us out with a bang. It’s so fun – and the visualizer is just as fun as the song. Like with a few, this is going to be on my “getting ready to go out” playlist and my go-to karaoke songs.

If you gave this album a listen, what was your favorite song? Or are you like me and have a three-way tie?

I’m Kait

Welcome to my blog, Kait Mae. I created the blog in college as an assignment, then rebooted it when I worked for a newspaper as a creative outlet for articles that wouldn’t get published or some that I loved after I left that job. But after nearly two years, I’m rebooting it again as a creative outlet where I can share my thoughts on pop culture and media.

I hope you’ll stay awhile and check it out.
