Ranking the Bratz Movies

Ranking the Bratz Movies

I don’t know about you, but I grew up on Bratz, Barbie, and Polly Pockets. And while I could easily rank the animated Barbie movies right now, I am just in the mood to rewatch some Bratz movies. So, that’s what I did. And now, I’m sharing my ranking – it’s all biased based on nostalgia and basic storytelling principles. But without further ado, here’s my ranking of the Bratz movies. And please, if you disagree, let me know why you think a different movie should be higher or lower – I might go back and rewatch them to see your points.

My Absolute Least Favorite: ‘Bratz’

MGA Entertainment | Crystal Sky Pictures | Arad Productions | Lionsgate

The live-action movie has been the worst in terms of being “Bratz”. For the most part, Cloe and Jade were very similar to their animated counterparts of the time, with Sasha close behind. But Yasmin – while I loved her – didn’t fit her animated personality at all.

Was the music good? Yes, but the majority of the Bratz girls didn’t sing. I still listen to a few songs, but other than knowing they’re from the movie soundtrack, none of it screams Bratz. I think the writers were just hoping to make a quick buck off the movie and didn’t care about what Bratz really was.

That said, the disc game they made for it was fun. If you weren’t able to play it, I’m sorry – you missed out.

‘Bratz Babyz: The Movie’

I’m going to be completely honest here: I didn’t like any of the Bratz Kidz or Babyz movies much. I watched them as they came out, but I wouldn’t go back and rewatch any of them. And Babyz: The Movie is the worst of them.

The story was a little lacking, and the animation was off-putting for some reason. Overall, the movie was just not memorable, and if I was giving someone a list of essential Bratz movies to watch, this would not be on it.

‘Bratz Kidz: Sleep-Over Adventure’ and ‘Bratz Kids: Fairy Tale’

As I said, the Babyz and Kidz movies just missed the mark for me. And that is proven by a tie for this placement with both Kidz films. They’re alright – but nothing I would write home about.

I couldn’t tell you much about either movie even after rewatching both recently. Sleep-Over Adventure was more Bratz-esque, but Fairy Tale was cuter. But neither was amazing.

‘Bratz: Super Babyz’ and ‘Bratz Babyz Save Christmas’

Rounding out the Babyz and Kidz movies, we have Super Babyz and Babyz Save Christmas. Both had the more interesting plots of the younger years, but I’m going to have to say Save Christmas is a smidge better because of the holiday theme.

That said, Super Babyz was cute and I watched that three times because my mom rented it for me from Blockbuster – I know, it’s that old. But if I was given the chance to watch either of them for free again, I’d go with Christmas.

‘Bratz: Go to Paris the Movie’

As the last Bratz movie (from 2013 sadly), it didn’t go out with a bang. It was honestly forgettable – enough that I had to rewatch it to remember that I had seen it. And that’s sad because I love girl spy media.

If you missed the movie, it follows the Bratz girls as they head to Paris because someone is poisoning Paris’s most popular models. They go undercover as spies for Byron to find out who is the culprit. But it just didn’t hit the mark.

‘Bratz: Pampered Petz’

I know this wasn’t the best Bratz movie, but I loved it…just not as much as the others. Many people said this movie falls flat, but I think it’s just a Yasmin-centric movie.

If I remember correctly, she was always the big animal lover – so of course, if a movie followed her interests, it would be because there were a ton of animals involved. I will say, the animation style didn’t translate great to the pets, though – but it’s still a movie I want to rewatch.

‘Bratz: Girlz Really Rock’

MGA Entertainment | Mike Young Productions | Splash Entertainment

This might be controversial because it’s not the usual Bratz movie, but I think it was better in the storytelling department than Pampered Petz. It had a main plotline, but there were several smaller side plots.

I genuinely think it would be higher on this list if there weren’t so many side plots. That said, the Dylan maturing plotline has to be a favorite of mine. I loved seeing how his relationship made him grow up quite a bit.

‘Bratz: Desert Jewelz’

This is a good movie, but I have to admit, I didn’t love it as much as Genie Magic. That said, I would rewatch this. I’ve only seen it once, so I don’t remember much from it, but if I was making a list of movies to rewatch, this would be on the list for sure.

In case you missed this, Desert Jewelz is the sequel to Genie Magic. It sees the Bratz girls and Katia as they go on a journey with a street thief, Alia. The girls must convince Alia to help save the lamp from getting into the wrong hands.

‘Bratz: Fashion Pixiez’

MGA Entertainment | Bassline Digital | Lionsgate
MGA Entertainment | Bassline Digital | Lionsgate

Out of the OG Bratz movies, this one might have hit the softest. That said, it’s still iconic and amazing. I loved how different it was from the ones before – and I loved how the Bratz were split apart slightly.

The music was a bit forgettable compared to the others above it on this list, but the fairy part of the movie makes up for it. I wish we’d seen more of Cymbeline and Breanna after this movie. It also didn’t have a game, which was a big fumble because that would’ve been awesome.

‘Bratz: Passion 4 Fashion – Diamondz’

20th Century Fox | MGA Entertainment
20th Century Fox | MGA Entertainment

I think I love this movie so much because of the PlayStation 2 and Gameboy Advanced games, but after rewatching it, it’s just a good movie. It’s not great by any means, but it’s a good movie for tweens.

I adored Sharidan, and I wish there were more movie and show appearances of her, but I’ll have to settle on the numerous doll versions of her. I also loved the little mystery in the movie resulting in Mandy being outed as a thief. It just hit differently than the other movies.

‘Bratz: Genie Magic’

MGA Entertainment | Mike Young Productions | Splash Entertainment
MGA Entertainment | Mike Young Productions | Splash Entertainment

This was my favorite for a good chunk of my childhood – and it was all because of Katia and the soundtrack. I still have the CD – that’s how much of a chokehold this has on me.

Genie Magic is just a fun and magical adventure that showcases the Bratz as we know them. But why isn’t it number one or two? It’s because the first two Bratz movies cannot be topped for me. But this comes close.

‘Bratz: Starrin’ and Stylin’’

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment | MGA Entertainment | Cinégroupe
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment | MGA Entertainment | Cinégroupe

The very first of the Bratz movies, Starrin’ and Stylin’, follows the Bratz girls before they became fashion magazine moguls. In this movie, they’re normal high school girls just trying to get through school as friends.

The live-action Bratz movie seems to have drawn inspiration from this, but what it missed (and what makes this movie so amazing) is the chemistry between the characters. While they have their ups and downs, they never break apart entirely – their friendship is too strong for that. And that’s why I will always rewatch this movie for the rest of my life.

‘Bratz: Rock Angelz’

MGA Entertainment | Mike Young Entertainment | 20th Century Fox
MGA Entertainment | Mike Young Entertainment | 20th Century Fox

Rounding out this ranking with the best Bratz movie as of right now: Bratz: Rock Angelz. The music is top-tier, the main plotline is amazing, and the side plots are so good. And if you were wondering how good their music is, it’s on Spotify and Apple Music. Go listen to it.

It was a perfect introduction to who Cloe, Sasha, Jade, and Yasmin are. It also introduced every side character that we’d see several more times, like Dylan, Cameron, and the Tweevils. This is what I had hoped for when they announced a live-action Bratz – and I hope if they ever try again with movies, this is what they use as their example. What was your favorite Bratz movie? And which do you disagree with on this list?

I’m Kait

Welcome to my blog, Kait Mae. I created the blog in college as an assignment, then rebooted it when I worked for a newspaper as a creative outlet for articles that wouldn’t get published or some that I loved after I left that job. But after nearly two years, I’m rebooting it again as a creative outlet where I can share my thoughts on pop culture and media.

I hope you’ll stay awhile and check it out.
