Read Through the Rainbow: Romance Edition

As my last February post this year, it’s only fitting to give you a rainbow of romance novels. I went through newer releases (plus one well-known romance author’s works) to find a rainbow of romance for this last week of “Love Month.” And every single book on this list (except the Indigo pick) are books I’d love to read one day, but I have to get through my current TBR first since I put myself on a book-buying ban. So, dive right in to this Romance Rainbow.

Red: ‘Dream Girl Drama’ by Tessa Bailey

Tessa is one of my favorite romance authors – though I’ve only read two books by her so far. There’s something about her writing that just flows well with my brain and reading style. And Dream Girl Drama is the latest release from her.

The novel follows Sig Gauthier, a pro hockey player, and Chloe Clifford, a harp prodigy, after they meet when his car breaks down at a country club. Then, they find out their parents are engaged, and they have to figure out their forbidden love as they get to know each other more.

Orange: ‘If the Ring Fits’ by Camilla Isley

If fake dating is more your style, then If the Ring Fits is for you. As soon as I read the description, I was hooked – and I look forward to clearing most of my TBR soon so I can grab this one.

In If the Ring Fits, we see investment banker Adrian fabricate a fiancee to impress his CEO while software engineer Rowena faces an unexpected unemployment and pregnancy. They meet and decide to create a fake engagement to mutually benefit. What could go wrong, right?

Yellow: ‘Wedding Dashers’ by Heather McBreen

Looking for a debut romance novel? Look no further than Heather McBreen’s Wedding Dashers. It’s got travel mishaps, a wedding, and a bar meet cute. And it’s on the top of my To Buy List once I get through my shelves.

Ada is traveling to her estranged sister’s wedding in Ireland when she confides in a charming stranger at a bar after several mishaps. That charming stranger just so happens to be the best man in the wedding – and they embark on a mishap-filled journey together to the wedding.

Green: ‘Work in Progress’ by Kat McKenzie

Tired of early 20s romances? Want something humorous but also extremely relatable about getting older and having to restart your life? Work in Progress by Kat McKenzie offers just that.

The novel follows Alice Cooper as she loses her job and fiance just as her 30th birthday approaches. So, what else does she do than take a three-week journey through the UK? And we all know what happens when an American woman meets a handsome Scottish man…

Blue: ‘Flirting with Disaster’ by Naina Kumar

Dell

In Naina Kumar’s novel from this past January, there’s a love triangle and second chances in Houston, Texas. It’s sure to bring the waterworks – and I don’t just mean that because there’s a hurricane that pushes the plot along.

Meena returns from Capitol Hill to Houston to finally settle her divorce to Nikhil. But after a hurricane forces them to shelter together in their former shared home, they’re forced to confront what broke their marriage, unresolved feelings, and Meena’s current relationship.

Indigo: ‘The Lucky One’ by Nicholas Sparks

Grand Central Publishing

As with all my “Read the Rainbow” posts, I wanted to include a long-standing well-known romance – and I went with The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. It may not be everyone’s first choice of Sparks novel, but the story itself is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

In The Lucky One, Marine Logan Thibault discovers a photo of a smiling woman during his tour in Iraq, which he believes brings him good luck. After returning home, he searches for the woman in the photo, Elizabeth, a divorced mother in North Carolina. And when he finds her, his secret about her photograph threatens to tear apart the connection they’ve created.

Violet: ‘Temple of Swoon’ by Jo Segura

The moment this book was announced, I was intrigued. And then I saw the cover and was hooked. It was described to me as female Indiana Jones but romance – sign me right up. (Take that definition with a grain of salt, it was a TikTok comment by someone who wanted to read it.)

Archaeologist Dr. Miriam “Mimi” Jacobs leads an expedition in search of the Lost City of the Moon, which happens to include journalist Rafael “Rafa” Monfils. But he’s not there to find it – he’s there to keep it hidden for his mother.

I’m Kait

Welcome to my blog, Kait Mae. I created the blog in college as an assignment, then rebooted it when I worked for a newspaper as a creative outlet for articles that wouldn’t get published or some that I loved after I left that job. But after nearly two years, I’m rebooting it again as a creative outlet where I can share my thoughts on pop culture and media.

I hope you’ll stay awhile and check it out.
