Ever since I managed to get my hands on Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige’s The Ravens, I can’t stop thinking about the dark academia college fantasy. The magic system is unique, the characters are realistic, and the vibes are immaculate. So, it should come as no surprise that I would want to see this adapted.
What Is ‘The Ravens’?

The Ravens is a duology following a sorority of witches. The story focuses on two specific witches: Vivi Deveraux, a freshman who’s new to magic, and Scarlett Winters, a legacy of the sorority who strives to make it the best it can be.
In the first book, someone is killing witches – and it’s up to Scarlett and Vivi to bring the sorority together before it’s too late. In the second book, The Monarchs, tensions rise even further as trust is tested and the power they’ve come to rely on shifts.
How Would I Bring It To Life?

As I do with many fantasy book series, I’m going with a television show. And because it gives off The Vampire Diaries, the OG Charmed, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, live-action is the best choice if this were to be adapted.
I’d have hour-long episodes, with twenty episodes per season. I would also love to work with both authors to continue the show after the two seasons based on the books. There’s so much worldbuilding we don’t get to see in action, plus many more characters we don’t get to see much of in the books. I think fans would be calling for more of the show.

Bringing the Characters to Life
Our leading ladies, Scarlett and Vivi, would need to be believably rivals turned friends. And after seeing both of these actresses in action several times now, I think they’d be perfect. For Scarlett, I’m going with Celeste O’Connor from Freaky and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. As for Vivi, I’m going with Grace Victoria Cox – I’ve seen her in Under the Dome and The Society most recently.

As for their mothers Daphne Devereaux and Marjorie Winter, I cast them after the main girls so I could find actresses who could believably play their mothers. For Daphne, I needed someone who looked similar enough to Grace – and settled on Robin Wright from House of Cards. And for Marjorie, as soon as I chose Celeste, I knew Regina King (no introductions needed because she’s iconic) was my pick.

Two of the Ravens that play prominent parts in the first book, we have Dahlia Everly and Tiffany Beckett. For Dahlia, I went with Jessica Amlee – most might recognize her from Heartland, but I first saw her in Greenhouse Academy. And for Tiffany, I just knew Victoria Baldesarra from The Next Step fit the part perfectly.

And last but not least, the love interests – sometimes, at least. First up, Mason – Scarlett’s ex who takes an interest in Vivi early on. I remember reading the book and just seeing Dallas Hart from Greenhouse Academy every time he showed up on page.

As for Jackson Carter, the thorn in Scarlett’s side that makes her heart flutter sometimes, I’m picking One of Us Is Lying’s Chibuikem Uche. After seeing him in One of Us Is Lying, I just knew I needed him in this project – and Jackson is the perfect character for that.
Have you read this book yet? If you like Charmed or The Vampire Diaries, you’ll definitely love it.
